Charism of Healing
Definition: God uses me to cure illness or restore health where healing is unlikely to happen quickly or at all.
Testimony for the Charism of Healing
I am confident that God still heals today because I have experienced it in my own body, seen it with my own eyes and healing is promised to us in God’s Word, Scripture. Healing comes in a number of forms but generally falls within four main categories, physical, emotional, relational or spiritual and I feel privileged to have witness the power of God’s merciful love in all of these aspects over the years.
Completing the Inventory, I scored well for the Charism of Healing which did not come as a surprise as I have been actively involved in praying with people for healing for a number of years and judged that I had an established ministry in this area.
Whenever I pray for someone for healing it is always a step of faith because I know that there is nothing I can do in my own strength other than pray in faith that I can be a channel of God’s healing grace into that person for whatever their need is. Sometimes a person is not cured of their ailment or condition but I know, from what people have told me, that even though they might not have been healed there and then they feel much more at peace and at one with God.
“She had a routine checkup at the hospital a few
days later and was told that there was no trace of the condition in her body.”
There have been many times when I have seen God’s miraculous healing manifested before my eyes. It can be migraines that immediately go, frozen shoulders that are restored to full mobility there and then, sight restored or deafness healed. In these situations, the feedback is right there in front of your eyes as the person witnesses to what has happened to them. At other times feedback comes after medical tests like the lady who had suffered from a condition called ‘lupus’ for many years who received prayer and went away. She had a routine checkup at the hospital a few
days later and was told that there was no trace of the condition in her body. She had regular checkups after that but five years later it still had not returned.
“To his and their surprise they could not find any trace of cancer in his body and he was sent home.”
Or the man who had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was due to go in for surgery the following day after he was prayed with. As part of the pre operation checks the medics did a further scan to see if the cancer had spread but, to his and their surprise they could not find any trace of cancer in his body and he was sent home.
Seeing and witnessing God at work is tremendous but it is a big challenge when a person isn’t healed. I have a dear close family member who has had a serious condition for many years and despite praying with them and for them the condition remains.
What I learned early on is to remember it is God who heals and all the glory goes to Him. All I can do is what I sense God asking me to do and to pray in faith as He would lead me – at the end of the day it’s God’s work not my efforts – I am called to be obedient and use my charism whenever and wherever it is appropriate.
